La Sultane de Saba came about from an ancient ritual whose secret was passed down from mother to daughter for generations. Its founder, Vanessa Sitbon, was inspired by her own family. In fact, it was her mother who wrote the first chapter of this beautifully scented story. In 1986, she opened a salon in Beaubourg, which was a resounding success, partly thanks to its slimming cinnamon cream. Vanessa joined her mother's salon in 1988 and then took it over. She stayed there for two years before moving to another salon. In 1994, she discovered a passion for oriental wax on a trip to Turkey, which she imported into France with white sugar. After learning the relevant techniques and delighting her loyal customers, it became one of the salon's specialties in just three months. In 1995, she extended her expertise to the beauty rituals of Moroccan women. Her travels inspired her to share her new-found knowledge by offering beauty therapy training, first in Paris and then in Europe. She developed a range of artisanal products using age-old, natural recipes featuring orange blossom oil to soothe the skin and reduce redness, cinnamon cream and black soap. Her enthusiasm has won over stores like Antoine et Lili, Galeries Lafayette (the brand was part of its Moroccan Nomad Exhibition) and Sephora. Enjoying plenty of press attention and customer satisfaction, La Sultane de Saba continues to draw on its expertise and the riches of its ancestors to transport us to exotic lands from its salon in rue de Bachaumont.
