Gucci's story began in 1881 with the birth of Guccio Gucci in Florence. He was the son of a leather craftsmen, and the luxurious bags and luggage he saw carried by visitors from Paris and London left their mark on him. In 1920, he decided to open his own leather goods and bags boutique, fusing his Italian expertise with the esthetic and style preferences he developed as a result of his travels abroad. His designs exuded all the luxury and refinement of the equestrian world, drawing on a stirrup as a signature trademark. They quickly garnered attention from clients around the world, who fell in love with this new Italian brand. During and immediately after World War 2, Gucci was nevertheless required to innovate as a result of restrictions on materials. It was then that Gucci's famous 'bamboo' bag was born, now a cult item featuring a polished bamboo handle. Guccio Gucci died in 1953, leaving the house in the capable hands of his four sons. Gucci's iconic 'double G' logo emerged in the 1960s, at a time when the house's heavily leather goods-centered styles began moving closer to other leading luxury brands' approach. Gucci products are sophisticated, refined designs that aim to be unique. The Gucci style is timeless and eternal, a far cry from the extravagant whims of fashion.
